Juliet Collins

Juliet works with a coarse stoneware clay called 'crank'. The natural almost stone like finish of her animal sculptures is achieved through a combination of the clay texture and combinations of natural oxides I.e. Copper, cobalt iron etc combined with her own 'dry glaze'. Although Juliet primarily produces animals she has undertaken commissions for other subject matter such as Easter Island figures, a Roman bust and recently producing a large head sculpture for an advertising agency.

Juliet has always had a passion for animals. Her early contemporary animal sculptures were mainly cats and horses and almost cubist in style but a trip to Africa in 1991 inspired a huge variation in subject matter and closer attention to skin textures on such animals as elephants, rhino's etc and generally a much more realistic appearance.

Originally from London Juliet now lives on the Isle of Wight where she has her workshop at home and also runs regular clay sculpture classes. After completing her studies at Medway College of Design, Kent she became resident Artist at Woodside Community School for 3 years. She then set up a workshop in the Blackheath area until 2002 when she moved to the island.

Juliet has taken part in many joint and solo exhibitions. She is a member of the Wildlife arts Society and previously The Society of Equestrian Artists and has displayed many of her contemporary sculptures at numerous exhibitions.
