John Scott Martin

John studied fine art and graphics at the Nottingham College of Art in the 60.s. He is now President of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

John also exhibits at the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Pastel Society in London.
 
Principally a marine artist his work features the 'most beautiful yachts in the world'. John travels widely with his cameras recording inspirational images of sail. Always adding to his large file of visual imagery. The quality of light at sea, the ever- changing weather, and of course sea conditions.  Although the 'big class' is very special, John is also inspired by Thames sailing barges and classic ex-working boats.
 
As well as working on canvas, his work is also executed in pastel, watercolour and sometimes mixed media. Whilst accuracy and detail is inevitably a consideration, John does not allow it to dominate the atmosphere of the picture. Choice of media often relates to the amount of fine detail required.
